Up and coming yacht race prodigy Ben Ainslie is also a Corum watch "brand ambassador." Which pretty much is what it sounds like. A walking "check out who is wearing our watch" promo. Such relationships have been known to turn sour sure, but most of the time are a win-win situation for both the brand, and the chosen ambassador. Someone gets money and/or watches, while someone else gets promotion and eyes it would have not otherwise had. Some of these relationships have strict guidelines for the ambassadors, insofar that they aren't even allowed to be seen in competitor products.

Ben Ainslie just won the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup (awful sounding name for a boat race if you ask me) by winning enough races and getting the most points. While his boat has lots of Corum branding on it, it is called the Alfa Romeo III - three guesses why that is. Before that he set a new record at the Transpacific Yacht Race in July - also on the Alfa Romeo team.

In the image you see Ainslie wearing a Corum Admiral's Cup Competition 48 watch - a timepiece initially made to celebrate the sport of yacht racing. The Competition 48 version of the Admiral's Cup is large at 48mm wide, has an automatic movement with a subsidiary seconds dial, as well as the day and date. Ainslie is wearing it with its very attractive metal bracelet. I have to admit that the watch looks lovely in its natural environment worn by a sailor on a ship. Price retails at above $6,000.
